Fork Extensions Spec Sheets

Fork extensions can be a good tool for stabilizing long, uniform loads without the need to buy long forks. Because of their lower lifting capabilities, there are limitations to their application of usage. Use of extensions should be limited to lighter loads and are designed for uniform, balanced loading. Loads should never be primarily on the tips of an extension nor should loads be carried beyond the tip of the extension. ANSI B56.1-2012, section 7.39.1 guidelines state that fork extensions should never exceed 1.5 times the length of the fork they are mounted to.

All-Pro will provide capacity stampings on your extensions based on the specific fork on your machine in accordance with ANSI B56.1-2012, section 7.39.4. The information needed at the time of purchase is the thickness, length, and width of your current fork.

All-Pro extensions will fit forks from 4 to 6 inches wide and have stock lengths from 63” to 96”. Heavy duty or custom length extensions are available upon request. If working with loads longer than your allowed extension or with non-uniform loads, please consult All-Pro Forks for the best solution for your material handling needs.

Are Extension Forks Difficult to Use?

Forklift extensions are easy to use. They simply slide over the existing forks and lock in place under a fork hanger. Some heavy-duty forklift fork extensions have a welded notch on the end for added stability. Here at ALL-Pro Forks, we are more then ready to help you find the proper forklift extension for your equipment.

What Is Considered a Forklift Extension?

A forklift extension is designed to improve the reach and load-bearing potential of a lift. This allows the lift to handle larger loads than it could with its standard forks. The extensions used vary based on the type of pallet lift being used. The specifications of forklift extensions vary, including dimensions, load capacity, material, compatibility, finish, attachment method, and safety features.

How Are Forklift Extenders Used?

Forklift extensions offer cost-effective solutions to increase the reach of a lift. They are best suited for occasional large loads that need a long fork. Fork extensions are made for lighter loads.

Using forklift extensions can save time and storage space. It can also lower labor costs and improve productivity. Fork extensions save space by allowing for double-deep pallet racks at each side of an aisle.

Forklift extensions can help pallet fork operators to save time. This is due to the fact that these extensions allow operators to do the following more effectively:

  • Handle different load sizes and shapes with one truck
  • Load and unload more pallets per pick than ever before
  • Load and unload trailers from just one side

No matter the size, a load should never exceed the maximum load weight limits.

Safety Tips for Using Forklift Extensions

Fork extensions can be hazardous. The biggest danger associated with fork extensions is decreased lifting capacity due to the attachments’ weight, tipping your forklift over or having loads that fall due to improper lifting.

To help prevent accidents when using a forklift extension, forklift operators should:

  1. Proper training: Only trained and certified forklift operators should use forklift extensions.
  2. Check equipment: Inspect the forklift and forklift extension before each use to ensure they are in good condition and secure.
  3. Load weight: Do not exceed the maximum weight capacity of the forklift or forklift extension.
  4. Center of gravity: Keep the load balanced and centered over the forks to prevent tipping.
  5. Avoid overloading: Do not overload the forklift or forklift extension, as this can cause instability and increase the risk of accidents.
  6. Use safety devices: Always use the locking pins or safety chains provided to secure the forklift extension to the forklift.
  7. Follow manufacturer guidelines: Follow the manufacturer’s guidelines for using forklift extensions, including proper attachment, use, and maintenance.
  8. Use caution when maneuvering: Be cautious when maneuvering the forklift and forklift extension, especially when turning or backing up.

By following these safety tips, you can help ensure safe and effective use of forklift.
